Motivational-Cultural Experiences. Disadvantaged Pupil Program Fund. Evaluation Report, 1982-83.
Morton-Watts, Gwendolyn
Provided here is an interim evaluation, for the school year 1982-83, of the Motivational-Cultural Experiences project of the Cleveland Public Schools. The purpose of the project is to provide activities which enhance and enrich the experiences of urban children, grades K-12, by transporting them to local cultural facilities for performances of music, drama, and dance, by bringing such performances into the schools, and by providing subjected-related experiences to motivate learning. Classroom instructional programs supplement these activities. In the school year 1982-83, Chapter I students from 112 schools attended 16 cultural/multicultural events. Subject-related experiences were provided by the Health Division. Upper-grade elementary school students and their parents were given the opportunity to visit the Health Activities Center and the Cleveland Health Museum, where program activities enhanced the students' interest in health and provided parents with a better understanding of the health and family life curriculum. The project's five objectives were all attained, and principal, teacher, and student responses to questionnaires and informal interviews were positive. (CMG)
