Kaplan, Oscar
Guidelines are provided for designing and conducting a telephone opinion poll of the community. Issues discussed in the first part of this guide include determining the proper sample size, drawing a representative sample of the general adult population or of voters, selecting phone numbers, making call-backs, obtaining the proper male-female ratio, and restricting calls to certain hours. Part two offers 19 recommendations for designing questions that are most likely to obtain the desired information. The final part consists of 13 instructions for the person conducting the interview including information on the types of people and problems examiners may encounter. This document was selected by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Task Force on Public Confidence as descriptive of a promising practice or exemplary project worthy of highlighting for the California educational community.
