Evaluation of the Horizons-Upward Bound Program, 1981-1982.
Poulos, Nicholis
The Horizons-Upward Bound Program assists students from low income families who have shown a potential for academic achievement to conclude high school and to go on to higher education. It provides participants with services and enrichment activities in high school English, mathematics, reading, and science. The analysis of pre- and postcomparative performance in reading and mathematics on the California Achievement Tests indicated that the gains of the program participants exceeded the gains of the control students. This report presents the recruitment and selction procedures, discusses the summer and winter programs, describes the procedures for establishing a control group and the evaluation plan, analyzes the data and findings, and offers profiles of a representative group of the participants.
