In-Service Training Program for Teachers of Young Children: Guidelines.

A module was developed in India for inservice training of preprimary and first-grade teachers. Included in the module are: a set of guidelines for planning, implementing, and evaluating the inservice training program; a 12-day schedule of topics to be covered; a detailed schedule of program activities, including procedural guidelines; and lesson plans for training sessions, listing aims, procedures, contents, and needed materials. Topics addressed in the training program include language, puppetry, social studies, mathematics, and science. Lesson plans focus on preschool education, the display of audiovisual aids, language in early childhood, aids promoting language development, puppetry and puppet-making, reading and writing readiness, observation of language experiences in the town of Balwadi, reading and writing skills, social studies, mathematics, and science. Participants are provided opportunities for discussion and for learning how to observe student activity in various curricular areas.
