Junior College Directory, 1961. Data for June 1, 1959 to May 31, 1960.
Gleazer, Edmund J., Jr., Ed.
Based on data collected by the American Association of Junior Colleges (AAJC), this directory provides information on 668 junior colleges in the United States and its territories, and Canada for 1959-60. Following introductory material on the scope of the directory, the first section lists the colleges alphabetically by state, providing the following information for each: location; administrative head; AAJC membership; state recognition or accrediting agency; type of control or affiliation; co-educational or single-sex status; date founded; enrollments for fall 1959 broken down by freshman, sophomore, or unclassified status, adult enrollments, and full- or part-time status; summer and cumulative enrollments; and numbers of full- and part-time faculty. After listing institutions added or dropped since 1960, this section provides statewide summaries for all junior colleges and for public and private institutions, which include data on number of colleges, AAJC membership, student enrollments for fall 1959, and full-time equivalent faculty. The following section analyzes junior college growth from 1900 to 1960 and presents data on changes in the number of colleges and enrollments, and types of colleges and accrediting agencies. The final section includes a list of AAJC members; an alphabetical listing of junior colleges; and a directory of junior college organizations and their officers. (HB)
