Junior College Directory, 1959. Data for June 1, 1957 to May 31, 1958.
Gleazer, Edmund J., Jr., Ed.
Based on data collected by the American Association of Junior Colleges (AAJC), this directory provides information on 667 junior colleges in the United States and its territories, Canada, and other selected countries for 1957-58. Following introductory material on the scope of the directory, tables provide statewide summaries of the following data for all junior colleges, and for public and private junior colleges: number of colleges, AAJC membership, student enrollments and status, and numbers of full- and part-time faculty. Next, the directory lists the colleges alphabetically by state, providing the following information for each: location; administrative head; AAJC membership; state recognition or accrediting agency; type of control or affiliation; co-educational or single-sex status; date founded; enrollments for 1957-58 broken down by freshman, sophomore, or unclassified status, adult enrollments, and full- or part-time status; and full- and part-time faculty members. The following sections provide a list of individual AAJC members; an alphabetical listing of junior colleges; a directory of national and regional junior college organizations; and a directory of junior college honorary societies and social organizations. Finally, an analysis of junior college growth reviews changes in the number of colleges and enrollments from 1900 to 1957, the size and location of colleges, faculty numbers, types of colleges and forms of control, and AAJC membership.
