Some 2,500 descriptors dealing with the planning and design of educational buildings and equipment are included in this permuted index which was developed by the architects of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization's (Unesco's) Educational Facilities Section, the Unesco Regional Offices Educational Facilities units, and a thesaurus expert. The educational terms selected deal mainly with planning, administration, and financing. Terms dealing with the technical aspects of building, such as construction processes, building components, construction systems, and building materials and services, are also included, as are concepts from related subject fields in science, technology, the social sciences, and culture. It is noted that this thesaurus has been incorporated into Unesco's computerized information system and that it is stored within the "EDFAC data base." (ESR)
