Training for Work with Under Fives: A Report on a Series of Seminars and a Conference Held in 1980/81 Under the Auspices of VOLCUF.
Monk-Jones, Mary, Comp.
Held in London in 1980, a series of three seminars entitled "Training for Work with Under Fives" was organized, followed in l981 by a conference on the same topic. The object of these meetings was to obtain information about and to examine issues relating to the various teacher training courses in existence. Seminars dealt with major national training courses for work with children under 5 years of age, social work and other related training, training schemes set up by voluntary organizations, and the relationship between training and the provision of statutory and other services for children under 5. Papers presented at the conference went on to look at the fragmentation of services for children under 5 and the implications of this situation for training and to outline some experiments in joint training schemes and collaboration course planning. All papers presented at both the seminars and the final conference are summarized in the present document. Several issues raised by the talks and in discussion are set out in a separate section, and conclusions drawn from the seminars are listed. Appended are notes on courses not included in the seminars and a bibliography of recent publications concerned with training for work with children under 5. (RH)
