Based on the questionnaire used annually by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), this publication is a compilation of 1978-79 statistics from 98 non-ARL libraries located in U.S. or Canadian universities. It is noted that each university is one designated as a research or doctorate-granting university by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Statistics are presented by library for 22 variables covering collection size, interlibrary loan activity, expenditures, and personnel in full-time equivalents (FTE). Figures for the high, median, low, and total amounts of each variable for all libraries surveyed, and an analysis of the high, median, and low figures for 9 selected variables are given. Additionally a compilation of Ph.D. and enrollment statistics, an analysis of microform holdings by type of microform and size of collection, and rank order tables for 14 selected variables are provided. A sample copy of the study questionnaire and instructions for its use are included. (Author/ESR)
