Information is presented on 1981-1982 enrollments, faculty, degrees, student finances, and institutional finances at the 41 private, predominantly black colleges and universities that are members of the United Negro College Fund. Data and narrative analyses are presented on the following: fall 1981 enrollment, first-time student enrollments, college applications, freshman academic profile, nonblack students, the proportion of women to men, geographic distribution of students by region, size of the faculty, faculty rank and degrees held, faculty racial composition, faculty salaries, total undergraduate and graduate degrees, fields of study, annual parental income, student financial aid, average cost to students, institutional revenues and expenditures, and total endowment. Appendices provide data by institution for 1977-1981, as well as the following additional information: entering freshmen by high school rank, number of students with Spanish surnames, geographic distribution of students by state and major cities, enrollment of foreign students by country, faculty turnover and tenure, numbers of dual-degree engineering students, alumni contributions, and institutional financial aid allocations.
