College Student Profiles: Norms for the ACT Assessment, 1980-81 Edition.

Extensive normative information are presented on about 455,170 college freshmen entering college in 1979 at 1,099 institutions participating in the American College Testing (ACT) Assessment Program. Norms are provided for males and females on ACT test scores and high school grades by college type, affiliation, and geographic region, and by student age, family income, planned educational major, racial-ethnic background, and physical handicap. Norms are also presented for the following characteristics by college type and affiliation: educational major and vocational choice, educational degree aspirations, importance of factors affecting college choice, financial aid considerations, and needs for special programs and services. An overview of the ACT assessment program is presented, along with the content and organization of College Student Profiles. The norms are given for four academic tests of the ACT (English, mathematics, social studies, and natural sciences). Norms are also presented for four self-reported high school grades, and high school average. A glossary of statistical and technical terms, the ACT Student Profile Section, and a discussion of accuracy of the norms are appended. (SW)
