Five-Year Projected Utah School District Building Needs.
Utah State Office of Education, Salt Lake City.
Utah and its school districts share the responsibility for providing adequate school facilities, including developing feasible alternatives to new construction. School facilities are financed primarily with local property taxes supplemented with limited state aid. During summer 1982, Utah's 40 school districts projected their highest priority building needs for the 5-year period from the 1982-83 school year through the 1986-87 school year. These projections were based on District Comprehensive School Building Programs, as required by Utah law, and provide the basic data for this report. The report reviews Utah's present school facility situation and the current status of district building programs, updates previous 5-year elementary and secondary building need projections, determines current district plans for utilizing alternatives to new construction, and presents alternatives for action. Appendixes provide supporting data on existing facilities, projected needs, noninstructional facilities, the site acquisition program, and school building equalization, as well as a sample of the district report forms as filled out by the Kane School District.
