Tutor Manual. Burris-Ball State Program. Migrant Education Center.
Wade, Pamela J.
The manual provides an overview of the Burris-Ball State Migrant Education Program and its program components. A general description of the tutorial component, designed to meet the unique educational needs and interests of elementary and secondary migrant students not serviced by other migrant education programs, precedes an explanation of the tutors' roles and responsibilities. Next the manual describes the Migrant Student Record Transfer System (MSRTS) and the Skills Information System (SIS), which consists of skill lists for early childhood development, math, reading, and oral language. Receiving and sending procedures for MSRTS and SIS are described, as well as the features of each skills list. The manual includes charts of the Migrant Education Services organization, MSRTS student data flow, and MSRTS information. The manual includes brief descriptions of the Materials Development and Resource Center (MDRC), the career awareness residency program, a profile study of migrant students, a statewide needs assessment, the secondary credit exchange program, and the book distribution program; steps in using the MDRC; sample skills sheets; guidelines for attractive and individualized instructional materials; some basic types of learning activities; and suggested activities for increasing skills in oral language which are correlated to skills designated by the SIS.
