California Medi-Corps Evaluation Report Summer 1980.
Rice, Joseph P.
Using data obtained from two external evaluators, health assistants, team leaders/coordinators, and migrant pupil service delivery forms, the evaluation examined the supervision services; preservice workshops; whether health education assistants were directly serving migrant pupils and functioning at levels of competence commensurate with their training and skills; inservice programs offered for health assistants; levels of cooperation and communication among health assistants, regional migrant personnel, health and social provider agencies, and private health groups; record keeping and thoroughness of health assistant profiles and records; health education programs in the schools; central Medi-Corps administrative and support services available to team leaders; quality of community involvement by health assistants; supervisors' use of health assistants in compliance with Medi-Corps objectives; appropriateness and quality of health services; performance of health assistants; and actual counts of identified migrant pupils served. Findings included: the program offered a comprehensive experience to the Medi-Corps students in education, social service, and clinical experience; all Medi-Corps students expressed a high level of satisfaction toward their summer experience; exceptional improvement of supervision services for Medi-Corps students in the field; and improvement of the preservice and inservice training programs. This report provides data supporting the evaluation findings, quoting verbatim the external evaluators' reports where appropriate. (NQA)
