Enrolments in Australian Schools.
Australian Education Council, Melbourne.
Compiled in 1982, this study looked at enrollment patterns in Australian schools since the early 1960's. Data are presented by state and territory and for the nation as a whole. The tables and diagrams indicate great diversity in patterns, but there are several consistent trends. Enrollments in nongovernment (private) schools have increased steadily throughout the past 20 years. Enrollment increases have been smaller in the government public school sector, with absolute decreases in total government enrollments in 1979 and 1980, though 1981 enrollment again increased. The proportion of students attending nongovernment schools declined from 1963 to 1977 but since then has been increasing. (Author/JM)
