Guidelines for Involving Older School Volunteers.
National School Volunteer Program, Inc., Alexandria, VA.
Asserting that America's senior citizens make up the largest untapped source of talent that can be utilized to assist the schools, this booklet proceeds to provide practical guidelines for recruiting and using older volunteers. The document opens with an exploration of the range of roles older volunteers can fill, then considers the process of assessing school needs for volunteer assistance. Strategies for recruiting senior citizens and techniques for interviewing, placing, orienting, and training them are suggested. Examples drawn from the experiences of successful programs illustrate the practicability of the recommendations. Methods for obtaining support for programs and for meeting special problems are also included. Appendices present sample forms and public service announcements and the outline of a procedure for orienting volunteers. (PGD)
