Learning from Text Project for 1981-1982: Conceptualization, Prediction and Intervention. Final Report.

Whereas an earlier report summarized six phases of the Learning from Text Project, including expansion and organization, this final report consists of five parts: (1) explanation of a model for learning from text in a classroom situation, (2) application of the learning from text model to analysis of data for eight California campuses, (3) analysis of task difficulties in learning from text, (4) review of five collateral research projects, and (5) plans and projects for the coming year. Appendixes include reports on the following research projects: the relation of topic familiarity, textual cohesion, and syntax to the ability to read; the effect of manipulative and metacognitive questioning on high school students' learning from expository text; and the effect of diagrammed paragraphs on the comprehension and recall of history text among university students.
