The Use of Clinical Hypnosis in a College Counseling Center.
Cohen, Herbert A.
This report describes the use of hypnosis at the Hiram College Counseling Center, a counseling technique that has been especially helpful in academic, athletic, and personal improvement areas. The induction techniques of hypnosis are described as well as the use of hyperempiria. The use of hypnosis in improving study habits and alleviating test anxiety is outlined along with several case studies that illustrate the effectiveness of the technique. The paper also describes outreach activities of the counseling center including Graduate Record Examination Workshops incorporating the hypnosis technique. Examples are also given that describe the value of hypnosis for athletes in training. (JAC)
