School-Based Delivery of Interactive Television for the In-Service of Regular Teachers on Learner Developmental Disabilities. Final Report.
Tuscher, Leroy J.
The primary objective of this project was to increase the knowledge of individuals concerned with the needs of the developmentally disabled by developing and delivering inservice training activities for "regular" education personnel. This was accomplished by designing and implementing a set of individualized, interactive videocassette training modules which concentrated on a set of factors having the potential to contribute to the social integration of handicapped youngsters into the mainstream of schooling, and to sensitize educators to the handicapped child and various handicapping conditions. The outcomes of this project were threefold: educators acquired an understanding of the problems of the social integration of handicapped children and knowledge of the implications of the various handicapping conditions; the training modules were provided at the location or site of employment; and the training program demonstrated the efficiency and effectiveness of an alternative instructional delivery system utilizing recent technological innovations in interactive television. Appendices include a review of more than 30 films, filmstrips, slide/tape programs, and videotapes with information on the source, handicapping conditions presented, implications for learning, classroom strategies, factors inhibiting or enhancing socialization, and possible achievement levels; documentation of copyright agreements; a detailed description of the production methods used; pretests and posttests used in conjunction with the videocassettes; and segment tests for the video responder.
