These instructional materials are intended as a guide for the instructor of a block course in introductory vocational data processing. A textbook and supplementary materials of the instructor's choice would probably be used in conjunction with these materials. Topics covered in the 11 units are background and uses of data processing, input/output devices and media, data entry and manual accounting, central processing unit, introduction to control systems, program planning, basic programming, RPG (Report Program Generator) computer programming, COBOL programming, careers in data processing, and laws, ethics, and issues. Each unit may contain some or all of the following: unit and specific objectives; lesson outline with suggested instructor and student activities, and list of needed instructional materials; information sheets in outline form; handouts; transparency masters; assignment sheets; answers to assignment sheets; job sheets, unit examination; and answers to examination.
