But I've Tried Everything! A Special Educator's Guide to Working with Parents.
Lynch, Eleanor W.
Intended for special education teachers, the idea book for involving parents in the individualized education program process is presented. Barriers interferring with parent participation and suggestions for overcoming them are addressed in nine areas: communication problems, transportation problems, babysitting problems, lack of time, lack of understanding of the system, feelings of inferiority, feeling that problems won't be resolved, language and/or cultural differences, and realistically accepting their child's disability. Among the suggestions offered are being available to parents, keeping parents informed of their child's progress, providing babysitting, building parents' confidence, and being supportive and sensitive to parents' feelings.
