A Statistical Analysis of Educator Drop Out in Illinois Public Schools.
Ellis, Joseph; And Others
In an effort to analyze the extent of and reasons for the exodus of teachers from teaching, this study collected and analyzed data from the Illinois State Board of Education for the school year 1979-80. The study, which excluded the Chicago Public Schools, compared statistics on teachers, administrators, and certified support personnel. Twelve reasons were identified to explain why educators leave the field. Results indicate that teachers and support personnel had similar dropout rates, which exceeded the dropout rate of administrators, and that the reasons for dropping out differed significantly between males and females.
