This book is intended for the person who has had 100-200 hours of language training in Kpelle, a language of Liberia. The text has six parts: (1) an introduction to the languages of Liberia, including charts and maps showing the distribution of African languages, the location of Liberian languages, and indications on the relatedness of the languages; (2) a lengthy instruction on a method of learning a language on one's own; (3) instructions for native language tutors; (4) a short reference grammar summarizing the basic grammatical structures in Kpelle; (5) a Kpelle-English dictionary; and (6) a description of the sound system of Mande languages and instructional material on learning the sound system of a language.
