Results of the Admissions Testing Program for the Atlanta Public Schools' Seniors from 1975 to 1981.

The scores for Atlanta seniors who took the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Test of Standard Written English (TSWE), the Admissions Testing Program (ATP) Achievement Tests, and the Student Descriptive Questionnaire were presented for the years 1975 through 1981. The scores were compared to the scores of the State, Southern Region, and Nation. The percentage of students taking the SAT increased from 1978 to 1980, but then decreased. The SAT scores for Atlanta seniors were analyzed and subtest scores were compared. The results of the Student Descriptive Questionnaire were analyzed. Grade point averages for Atlanta students were compared with other groups. They were found to increase in all subject areas from 1980 to 1981. The number of years of study by subject and class rank were compared with other groups. Parental income and degree level goals were also compared. The author recommended that a study should be done to determine if students who take the SAT have enrolled in courses recommended for college bound students. SAT scores should be presented and discussed with the high school faculty. Exemplary programs to prepare students to take the SAT and/or prepare for higher education should be identified. (DWH)
