Oklahoma...OK. Oklahoma Activities, K-6.
Oklahoma State Dept. of Education, Oklahoma City.
This guide provides articles and activities designed to make elementary students in Oklahoma aware of their historical heritage. It introduces students to the people and events that produced the state of Oklahoma. The guide is arranged into five sections. Section one presents 12 articles focusing on such topics as life before the white man, explorers, the first Indians, and the early settlers. Section two describes and pictures state emblems. There are also maps that show such information and events as cattle trails and land openings in Oklahoma. In section three, there are 22 student activities about Oklahoma. For example, there is a cowboy boot with 20 words listed on it. The children are to write a story about cowboys using at least 10 of the words on the boot. There is also a list of 12 additional classroom activities. Patterns such as a cowboy hat, a boot, and a covered wagon are pictured in section four. A bibliography is included in section five. (NE)
