The text of this syllabus, addressed primarily to American Indian teacher aides (TA), defines the role of the TA in the classroom and provides information that will assist the aides in carrying out their duties and will assist the teacher in understanding and effectively utilizing the TA. Information covers: the aide in American Indian programs, applying for a job as a TA, the American Indian TA in the classroom, management for aides, roles of the teachers and the aides, tips on growth and development of children, activities for aides, creative ideas for aides, story telling techniques, and play time activities. Within the text are incorporated helpful ideas for the TA such as 65 ways to say "Good for You," sample forms for achievement awards and good attendance, description of games (pre-K-8) for indoors and/or outdoors along with equipment needed and directions for playing, and a sample time sheet and job application. Appendices include an inventory of teacher aide skills, TA evaluation form, suggested guidelines for TA workshops, a workshop form, and a self-evaluation form for the TA. (AH/ERB)
