An Addendum to Kindergarten Scheduling: Full Day - Alternate Days or Half Day - Every Day. A Follow-Up Report.

In this second phase of the School District of Lodi study concerning kindergarten scheduling, the question, "What are the long-range effects of the full day/alternate days schedule?" was addressed. In an effort to answer the question, the following took place: (1) the literature was reviewed; (2) teachers from grades 1, 2, and 3 were surveyed to determine how they perceived the school readiness level of children who had attended a full day/alternate days program as compared to the school readiness of children who had attended a half day/every day program; (3) a district which had adopted the full day/alternate days schedule was revisited; and (4) a study of full day/every day scheduling was initiated. Results are discussed. (A current list of districts in Wisconsin with full day/alternate days kindergartens is appended, along with a copy of the survey instrument.) (MP)
