Legal Services for Oregon School Districts.
Johnson, Maggie
OSSC Bulletin, v25 n6 Feb 1982
This bulletin looks at the legal services used by school districts in Oregon from three perspectives. First, general ways districts use legal assistance are discussed. Second, profiles of three districts provide examples of different possibilities for hiring and consulting legal counsel, with special attention paid to meeting the demands of Oregon's collective bargaining law. The districts, of different sizes and organizational structures, are Jefferson School District, a central Oregon district with 2,300 students; Jackson County Educational Service District, serving 10 school districts in southern Oregon; and Beaverton School District, a suburban district near Portland with 20,500 students. Finally, the bulletin describes services offered by two statewide educational organizations, the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon School Boards Association, both of which can provide assistance to districts but cannot themselves provide legal advice.
