Conferences That Work. Leadership Pamphlet #11.
Adult Education Association of U.S.A., Washington, DC.
This pamphlet on conferences is the eleventh of 16 in a series to provide leaders in adult activities with sound introductory material to give practical help in using a method of adult education or working in a particular area. Its objective is to help leaders plan and manage conferences. Eight articles and how-tos are included. "The Conference of the Future" presents results of a sampling of 18 national organizations on ways to change and improve conferences. "Building the Conference Community" attempts to deal with the problems created by differences in experience among conference participants. Personnel requirements for conference planning are suggested in the "Conference Operations Chart" and "The Planning Committee." A detailed outline of the planning steps to be taken before, during, and after the conference is presented in "Planning and Management.""Organizing for Work" considers two fundamental processes of the work conferences--organization of small work groups and methods for establishing communication between these small groups and the entire conference body. "Rehearsal for Leadership" suggests how conference discussion leaders, recorders, observers, and resource persons may be trained. "Job Sheets" follow which may be duplicated and passed out to each person who is taking one of these roles. (YLB)
