Handbook for Women in Transition. Book I--Job Hunting Skills.
Based on a survey of former fulltime homemakers in the Reading, Pennsylvania, area, this handbook was designed to provide a framework for resource persons to lead group sessions for women in transition. The material focuses on leading women to assess their skills and to discover which skills developed through homemaking can be transferred into paid employment. Part 1 consists of an overview of the handbook's contents and suggestions for leaders. Part 2, the personal inventory, contains exercises designed to acquaint participants with skills they may have developed through homemaking which can be transferred into marketable skills. Included in this section are a job-preferences inventory, a general skills inventory, and a personal attitude inventory. The third part of the handbook, the job hunt, focuses on assisting participants in learning job hunting skills. Topics covered are job search, career path, and community knowledge. The final part of the guide, presenting your skills to employers, emphasized methods that can be used for approaching employers. Contents include the training contract, resume writing, preparing a portfolio, and researching a company. Role-playing exercises for interviewing also are supplied. All exercises provide evaluation sections. (KC)
