Coordination Project for Educational Change at Will County Jail, July 1, 1980-June 30, 1981.
Linton, Margaret; Whitehead, Vivian
A project developed and implemented a complete system of intake-assessment-information-referral-followup and community cooperation in the delivery of services to 30 residents of Will County Jail. Its long range objective was to facilitate the self-direction of educationally needy incarcerated persons for reintegration into society as responsible adults. Intake and assessment instruments were selected or developed, including two intake instruments, academic assessment instruments for reading and mathematics, career inventory, and a self-understanding instrument. To sensitize and develop coordination among community agencies to develop and provide services to the incarcerated and released prisoners, the project director became involved in the Will County Community Services Council and established personal contacts with specific agencies. Following this narrative section, one-page summary profiles are provided of the 30 participants in the project. Summary charts show educational background, employment information, Myers-Briggs Personality Types, involvement with the law, and social profile information. Other information includes a summary profile of project participants, charts of the network of social service agencies providing in-jail and post-jail services, and charts on post-project situations of participants. A model outlines a step-by-step procedure to implement this type of program. Conclusions and recommendations conclude the report. (YLB)
