This paper describes the components of the interdisciplinary, kindergarten through grade twelve communication skills program developed by educators in the Lincoln, Nebraska, public schools. The paper contains (1) a brief discussion of the background of the communication skills program; (2) an overview of its characteristics; (3) statements of the program's content, implementation, and teaching strategies; (4) a depiction of the program model; (5) charts depicting student outcomes in the areas of communication codes, oral message evaluation, basic speech communication skills, and human relations for each grade level, as well as examples of school, occupational, citizenship, and maintenance applications of each outcome; (6) achievement indicators for each grade level; and (7) student assessment record forms.
