The Paraprofessional Handbook: A Guide for Adult Homebound Instructors.

Designed by Kentucky paraprofessional home instructors from their own personal experiences, this handbook is a practical guide to the Paraprofessional Home Instruction Program for new paraprofessionals, their supervisors, and other interested adult educators. An introduction describes home instruction for adults who desire basic educational instruction. Goals of home instruction are listed. The next section outlines roles of the paraprofessional home instructor and supervisor, training for the job, tips on dress code and attitude and behavior, and suggestions regarding forms, scheduling, materials for students, and student folders. A section on students covers recruitment, talking with potential students, enrollment, and scheduling visits. Discussion in the next section on the student focuses on putting the student at ease, setting goals, placing students in starter materials, formal testing and placement, prescribing a learning program, and learning management. Other sections offer tips on organizing paperwork, solutions to possible problems (confidentiality, personal safety, home environments, counseling, conflict areas, honesty), and answers to some common questions of paraprofessionals.
