Environmental Education in Asia and the Pacific.
Bulletin of the Unesco Regional Office for Education in Asia and the Pacific, n22 Jun 1981
Environmental education issues and programs in Asian and Pacific countries are examined in four sections. Section One presents a general overview of environmental education in the region. Topics discussed include environmental problems, goals and objectives for environmental education, legislation, the nature of environmental education, curriculum and instructional materials, teaching strategies, teacher education, and evaluation. Papers in Section Two were first presented to a Regional Workshop on Environmental Education convened by Unesco in Bangkok, Thailand. They describe the status of environmental education in 17 different countries and vary greatly in scope, often focusing on one or more of the above topics. Section Three addresses common problems and various dimensions of environmental education. Articles on population, the role of science, mass media, industrialization, and specific programs indicate that although environmental education is of relatively recent origin in countries around the world, much is being done in most countries in the region. The final section contains an extensive bibliography. (Author/DC)
