Arts Program: A Qualitative and Quantitative Evaluation of Program Development and Implementation, 1979-80. (Second Project Year.)
Schumacher, Sally; Linder, Fredric
The goals of the Richmond County (VA) Arts Program are: (1) to provide a comprehensive arts education program; (2) to increase creativity and self-esteem of art students (grades 6-12) and student awareness and general appreciation of the arts (grades 1-12); (3) to broaden teachers' instructional strategies and increase teachers' perceptions of the importance of the arts for student development; and (4) to increase community participation in school arts activities. The curriculum was implemented through art, music, and drama classes, and demonstrations of the Virginia Museum Traveling Exhibition. Student awareness and general appreciation of the arts increased. Student creativity did not increase, but self-esteem did. Teacher awareness, attitudes, and usage of arts activities increased. Parent and patron participation in the Arts Performance Series increased. (Author/BW)
