This directory lists National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) survey data tapes, as well as selected files from other organizations that are maintained for public dissemination from the NCES library. Each survey is processed as a unique data set and is sold as a separate entity unless otherwise noted. Information regarding standard copying procedures of these tapes, changes and modifications of the specifications, and the address to inquire about availability, contents, and specifications of any of the tapes are provided on the opening page. Seven surveys are listed under the heading Elementary and Secondary, ten for Higher Education, seven for Vocational and Adult Education, seven for Learning Resources, and 20 under Miscellaneous. The information listed about each survey includes the generic name of the file; the time period when the data were collected; the frequency with which they were collected; the smallest discrete level of data which was surveyed; the major variables included in the data; and comments which acknowledge sample surveys when applicable.
