The materials focus on: (1) program concept and objectives; (2) links between physical and mental health in the elderly; (3) recruitment and training of peer counselors; (4) health education workshops; (5) support networks; and (5) program evaluation. The first section presents the history, background, and description of the program along with the rationale for its development. The second section provides specific guidelines for developing and adapting the program to fit the special characteristics of each community.
