Research on Special Education in New Zealand.

The paper reviews the history and current status of special education research and programs in New Zealand. Separate sections address studies of the preschool level (such as early intervention); school aged level (touching on such topics as parent involvement, eligibility criteria, and social development); and postschool level (on adjustment of older handicapped persons). Problems and issues mentioned in the current state of the art include the domination of research by university personnel, the difficulty of obtaining research oriented journals by special education teachers and administrators, and the gap between educational researchers and practitioners.
