This collection of abstracts is part of a continuing series providing information on recent doctoral dissertations. The ten titles deal with the following topics: (1) an investigation and selective assessment of secondary school reading programs in Illinois; (2) a comparison of the content of oral and written responses of tenth grade students to selected passages; (3) a functional reading strategy in an eighth grade industrial arts/graphic arts program; (4) a vocational teachers' guide to student reading power; (5) teaching reading to low achievers in grades seven through nine; (6) a comparison of individualized and group-oriented reading methods related to critical thinking; (7) the effects of imposed and induced visual imagery strategies on ninth grade poor readers' literal comprehension of concrete and abstract prose; (8) secondary school teachers' perceptions of the importance, qualifications, and implementation of content area instruction; (9) content area reading instruction in the secondary schools of Connecticut; and (10) the effects of explicit-activated and implicit-activated antecedents on average third and eighth grade readers' resolution of anaphora.
