Measuring Innovation Configurations: Procedures and Applications.

Innovation Configurations (IC) represent the operational patterns of the innovation that results from implementation by different individuals in different contexts. This manual is intended as a practical tool for assessing IC, to promote understanding and facilitating of the charge process. Various issues, questions, and tasks that must be considered in developing an IC checklist are addressed, with the document organized into the following sections: (1) Introduction; (2) Background: The Concerns-Based Adoption Model, Basic Terms and Definitions; (3) Some Preliminaries to Checklist Construction; (4) Procedure: How to Construct Checklists; (5) Checklist Formats; (6) Using Your Checklist: Data Collection; (7) Data Analysis; (8) Appendix: Case Studies; and (9) Appendix: Sample Interviews. This manual is written in a developmental sequence which addresses issues as the reader is likely to experience them. The concept of IC and IC checklists are viewed as important tools that allow the emphasis to be placed upon the concrete and more tangible operational forms of the innovation, thereby increasing the possibility of having reliable and valid information about use of the innovation.
