Minischool Report of a Two-Year Experiment in Interdisciplinary Teaming.

A project to develop a school within a school at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf is described. It is explained that 20 students were scheduled for the minischool for 14 to 17 hours per week of flexible grouping according to needs and styles of learning. Interdisciplinary teaming formed the backbone of the program. Five chapters concentrate on the minischool's core curriculum, with units on "humanself," communities, people and the environment, government, and change. Objectives, suggestions for classroom management and ideas for curriculum and instructional strategies are presented for each unit. The skills curriculum in such areas as language arts, structured writing, and mathematics is described. Detailed evaluation findings for the program are provided, with one conclusion being that the minischool Ss tended to demonstrate greater measured growth than comparison Ss, particularly in affective areas.
