The booklet outlines Illinois' plan for delivering educational services to hearing impaired children. The history of the state's involvement with this population is traced from 1960. Guidelines are set forth for four major topics (sample subtopics in parentheses): identification and assessment (awareness of the problem, distinctions between deaf and hard of hearing, and the auditory-visual learning process); appropriate educational environment (problems in develooing individualized educational programs, facilities and equipment standards, and postsecondary education for hearing impaired students); qualifications and preparation of personnel (recruitment, selection, and professional standards); and inservice training (instructional models and target groups for inservice training). Nine appendixes include a lisLing of state teacher training institutions with programs for teaching hearing impaired students, and a room acoustics evaluation for classrooms with hearing impaired students.
