A Handbook for IEP Development: Implementation of Public Law 94-142.

The manual describes procedures of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (PA) regarding individualized education programs (IEPs) for exceptional children, as mandated by P.L. 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act. An initial section reviews the philosophy of the IEP and gives directions for completing IEP forms. Other topics addressed in the manual include the following (sample subtopics in parentheses): vocational education (IEP procedures for exceptional students in vocational education); parental involvement (parent participation in the IEP process); review, revision, reevaluation (procedures for conducting an annual review meeting); dismissal, graduation, training (IEP procedures for graduating students); and due process (notice of recommended assignment). Examples of 19 forms are also provided, including request for permission to evaluate, notice that a student is exceptional, notice of intent to reevaluate cumulative records, and IEP planning meeting checklist.
