These materials for a classroom or individualized learning setting comprise a curriculum for parenting education for school-age parents. The student textbook covers these topics: pregnant teenager's self-image, questions, and concerns; reproductive cycle and fetal development; prenatal changes and care; preparation for labor and delivery; postpartal care and concerns of the new mother; decision-making process; family planning concepts and methods; and parenting concepts and concerns. Working with Childbearing Adolescents, a guide for use with the text, assists professionals from varied disciplines in improving their effectiveness in working with pregnant teenagers and teenage parents. A chapter on developing a program for teenage parents is provided. Contents include adolescent development process, teenage sexuality, implications of adolescent childbearing, strategies for intervention, teenagers as parents, maternal-infant bonding, complete lesson plans to accompany the text, bibliographical resources, updated film lists, sources of free and inexpensive materials, and reproducible charts and diagrams. The other five booklets in this package are (1) a teacher's manual for the textbook, which outlines objectives, content, suggested methods, and resource materials; (2) student study guide for the textbook; (3) Breastfeeding: Something Special for Mother and Baby; (4) exercise booklet; and (5) statistical summary (1977-78) of New Futures School.
