Twelve-month administrative salaries were surveyed in 145 universities in 47 states. All 50 states and 170 universities were contacted for information. Participating member institutions of the National Association of State University and Land-Grant Colleges are identified. The following full-time administrative positions are included: president (chancellor), academic officers, business officers, student affairs officers, administrative officers, public relations/development officers, research officers, and deans (directors). Section two presents tables showing the salaries paid among the 145 respondents arranged into the nine regions defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (the New York and Boston regions are combined). Section three presents a table of salaries paid university system officers. A university system is defined as one which has a separate administrative structure for a system of multiple general academic institutions, at least one of which has offerings at the doctorate-granting level.
