Promoting Continuous Growth in Reading Achievement in Upper Elementary School Students. Research Monograph No. 26.

The individualized developmental reading laboratory program described in this monograph was designed to supplement regular reading instruction in grades four and five. Information is provided on the instructional procedures used in the program, with emphasis on instruction given through teacher comments written in individual students' folders. Results of research studies examining the achievement of students in the program during 1975-76 and 1976-77 are also presented. A summary of the results reveals that students in the reading laboratory situation had gains significantly larger than the expected norm gains for the variables of comprehension and word study skills.
