Teacher Skill Guide for Combatting Sexism. Module 3: Dealing with Resistance to Change.
Shulkin, Sunny; And Others
This workshop module is designed to increase teachers' understanding of the resistance they are likely to encounter from their students when introducing emotionally laden content (e.g., issues of stereotyping and sex bias), and to provide them with strategies for preventing, dealing with, and reacting to student resistance. A booklet for use in classroom activities is included. This contains strategies and principles that have proven helpful in both preventing resistance among students and reacting to their resistance once it is expressed. Guidelines for the teacher are followed by activities and examples that relate to each guideline. (JD)
