This document presents proceedings of a workshop held as part of Australia's preparations for the United Nations Conference on Science and Technology for Development, 1979. An overview of the workshop is presented, along with a transcript of the keynote address. Four topics are then addressed: (1) The Changing Allocation of Resources of Science and Technology in Australia; (2) The Impact of Science and Technology on Society and on Individuals; (3) Appropriate Education and Training in Science and Technology; and (4) The Transfer of Science and Technology. Also presented is a transcript of a panel discussion in which non-scientists and non-technologists questioned the participants of the workshop from a lay point of view on the application of science and technology for development.
