Individualizing Spanish in the Community College.
Hendrickson, James M.
This program was designed to permit students to enroll in elementary Spanish in any academic term. A lesson packet containing five parts was designed to accompany a regular text for first-year college Spanish. During the first week of classes, the students meet in a large group for instruction on how to learn a language and how to use the materials. During the rest of the course, a schedule of activities is posted each week. These are designed to encourage students to learn and use Spanish. The activities are of five types: (1) consultation, (2) conversing in Spanish on a one-to-one basis, (3) formal presentations by the professor, (4) full-class activities, and (5) taking and correcting tests. These activities vary according to student needs. Just as activities change from week to week, so the course itself changes somewhat each semester according to suggestions and comments made by students. (AMH)
