This paper reports the personal experiences of a Fulbright scholar working in the Egyptian government's Cairo broadcast facility, offering an inside understanding of some of the broadcasting procedures used by Egyptian mass media. Besides descriptions of the broadcasting procedures at Cairo Radio, the paper contains notes on announcers' training sessions that the author both attended and directed; anecdotes about pronunciation difficulties, the use of American versus British dialect and speaking voice, and on-the-air broadcasting operations/experiences; general information about Cairo Radio, such as its organization, types of programing, and physical plant; and differences between American and Egyptian broadcasting procedures.
